ABOUT COMIINO PRODUCTIONS

Hola! My name is Ileana Maria, and I run Comino Productions.

I am primarily a documentary producer from Miami, FL, and I currently live in Brooklyn, NY. My work has taken me all over the world, from Spain to D.C., and all the way to The Gambia, to tell stories about people changing the world for the better.

I have experience working across all stages of production, from coordinating shoot logistics and working with governments to expedite permits to finding the right people and places for the story, and filming them in locations around the world. While I can do it all, nothing makes me happier than being in the field and talking to people.

I spent the first five years of my career working at National Geographic, learning from the best storytellers. Through NatGeo, I traveled the world, telling stories and working closely with marine science explorers who work tirelessly to combat climate change. Most notably, I spent months in South Africa and The Gambia with Perpetual Planet Ocean Expeditions, filming local scientists at work. This job took me from the beaches of South Africa to research vessels in the Atlantic and Indian Ocean, to the Mangrove forests of The Gambia, to capture the timely, action-packed but also (more often), the slow and tedious work that is marine research. I sat down with explorers to tell their stories and translate the intricacies of their work for the public. My goal in all my productions is to create approachable video content that inspires people to think more critically and to be more intentional about how they move through the world.

I now work as a freelance producer, working closely with Kahlil Greene and his brand, History Can’t Hide. Most recently, we produced a five-part series with Vox, ‘Kahlil Explains.’

In addition to my documentary work, I am also a researcher and designer.
